With the corporate sustainability reporting directive, the EU forces large companies to disclose on the material risks of their actions, including in their value chains inside and outside Europe. Together with other EU initiatives under the EU Green Deal, incl. the proposed corporate sustainability due diligence directive, the aim is to foster sustainable and responsible corporate behavior and to anchor human rights and environmental considerations in companies’ operations and governance.
This guide is based on the internationally recognized standards concerning the corporate responsibility to respect human rights. It provides inspiration to actors within the construction sector on due diligence, as well an overview of potential human rights challenges and mitigation measures to consider across the construction value chain. As a generalized overview of risks and recommendations neither should or could be exhaustive, we hope this will support various actors across the value chain to conduct their own due diligence and put in place mitigation measures to address their risks.
